Digitization of a villa with NavVis VLX 3.0
Our latest project involved the complete digitization of a villa using the NavVis VLX 3.0 system. The result is a precise 3D model at LOD300 level, which now serves as the basis for the roof renovation. This digital representation allows us to develop efficient solutions and optimally modernize the building. [vc]

Initial situation and task
Our most recent project involved the complete digitalization of a villa using the NavVis VLX 3.0 system.
The result is a precise 3D model at LOD300 level, which now serves as the basis for the roof truss renovation. This digital representation allows us to develop efficient solutions and optimally modernize the building. Project duration: February 2024. Client: Prefabricated timber construction. Project: 3D laser scanning of a villa. On behalf of a prefabricated timber construction company from the Allgäu region, we digitized a villa in North Rhine-Westphalia for the purpose of converting the attic into living space. The digital twin enables the prefabricated timber construction company to create the necessary plans based on the existing building documentation. Using the new NavVis VLX 3.0 laser scanner, we created an ArchyCAD 3D model that provides our client with the required basis in a high level of detail.
Various work steps are necessary to create the 3D model. Our working process is as follows:
- Measurement of the external facade with the mobile 3D laser scanner NavVis VLX 3.0
- Measuring the interior spaces with the NavVis VLX 3.0
- The point cloud was registered in Trimble Realworks
- Export of the registered point cloud as a *.e57 file for the modelers
- Delivery of a 3D model in LOD300 in “ArchiCAD 22”
The desired result is based on the following key figures:
- 2x mobile laser scanning point clouds with the mobile laser scanner VLX 3.0
- On-site recording: 0,5 days
- Registration of the point cloud with IVION and RealWorks: approx. 4 hours
- Export as *.e57 point cloud file with approx. 25GB data size
- Modeling as a 3D model with “ArchyCAD 22”
