3D laser scanning for energy and water management

Inventory data for power plants, waterworks and sewage treatment plants

We use 3D laser scanning to capture technical systems in the energy and water sectors – for maintenance, conversion planning, system documentation and coordination with external planners.

Planning within existing buildings

Why energy and water suppliers are relying on 3D laser scanning

Energy and water management facilities are complex, safety-relevant, and have usually grown over decades – existing plans often only partially reflect the actual state.

3D laser scanning captures pipelines, tanks, machinery, and building structures contactlessly and with high accuracy. The data is available as a point cloud, 2D as-built plan, or CAD/BIM model – providing a reliable basis for maintenance, expansion, and plant design.

Operational safety is crucial. We will coordinate scan positions, access points and time windows in advance with your operations manager or security officer.

Typical starting situations

When it's worthwhile to register your system

Whether it's a power plant, waterworks or sewage treatment plant – up-to-date inventory data provides the basis for reliable planning.

01

Maintenance & Renovation

Record pipelines, tanks and machinery for maintenance, replacement or expansion.

02

Building services engineering and piping

Incorporate collision-proof pipe routing, fittings and fixtures into the planning.

03

licensing procedures

Provide comprehensible inventory plans for authorities, experts and external planning offices.

04

Plant documentation

Secure the current state for operating manuals, incident planning, or a digital twin.

Spatial mapping of plant technology, pipelines, tanks and building structure

Scope of recording

What information is being recorded for your system?

The scope depends on your planning task and the local operational conditions.

  • Building and hall geometry
  • Pipelines and fittings
  • Containers, basins and tanks
  • Machine and pump technology
  • Cable trays and electrical engineering
  • Steel construction, stages and platforms
  • Access roads and outdoor facilities
  • Control rooms and technical rooms

Frequently asked questions

Questions about laser scanning in the energy and water industries

Can scanning be performed during ongoing plant operation?

In most cases, yes. We coordinate scan positions, access points, and security requirements with your management in advance, so that operations usually do not need to be interrupted.

What safety requirements are taken into account?

We comply with the operational safety requirements on site, including access regulations, personal protective equipment and training by your operating personnel.

How exactly are pipelines and fittings recorded?

We adjust the level of accuracy to the planning task. For collision checks and pipeline planning, we record data in the required level of detail and at the necessary LOD (Level of Detail).

Which file formats can be provided?

Typical formats include E57, RCP/RCS, LAS, DWG, IFC, and STEP. We will coordinate other formats with your planning software.

What information do you need to provide a quote?

Helpful information includes location, system type, approximate size, planning objective, timeframe, and any existing plans or photos. We will clarify any open questions in a personal meeting.

Do you also work with external planning offices?

Yes. We coordinate output formats and interfaces directly with your commissioned planners, engineering firms or general contractors.

Project request

Which system would you like to have recorded?
