3D laser scanning for educational institutions and schools

Inventory data for schools, educational institutions and school foundations

We capture school buildings and educational institutions using 3D laser scanning – for renovation, area determination, fire protection planning and the digitization of building stock during ongoing school operations.

Planning within existing buildings

Why school authorities rely on digital inventory data

School buildings have often grown over decades, been rebuilt several times, and their existing plans are no longer completely up-to-date.

3D laser scanning captures classrooms, corridors, facades, and technical areas contactlessly and with high accuracy. The data is available as a point cloud, 2D as-built plan, or CAD/BIM model – providing a reliable basis for renovation, area calculation, and fire protection planning.

The crucial factor is the operation of the school. We deliberately schedule appointments during times when classes are not in session, such as afternoons or holidays, so that lessons can continue undisturbed.

Typical starting situations

When it's worthwhile to register your facility

Whether it's renovation, extension or area determination – current inventory data provides the basis for your planning.

01

Renovation & Conversion

Document facades, roofs, classrooms and escape routes for renovation projects.

02

Area calculation

Determine usable floor areas according to DIN 277 for school authorities, grant applications or room programs.

03

Fire protection planning

Provide accurate, up-to-date information for fire protection concepts and escape route planning.

04

Digital twin

Secure the building stock for building management, follow-up projects or virtual tours.

Spatial survey of school buildings, facades and outdoor facilities

Scope of recording

What will be recorded for your facility?

The scope depends on your planning task and the organizational framework of the school.

  • Building geometry and floor plans
  • facades and roof surfaces
  • Classrooms, specialist rooms and administrative offices
  • Corridors, stairwells and escape routes
  • Sports halls and multi-purpose areas
  • Technical rooms and building services
  • Schoolyard and outdoor facilities
  • Accessibility-relevant areas

Results

Data that school authorities and planners can use for further work

We will agree on the output format with your school authority or architectural firm before the project begins.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about laser scanning for schools and educational institutions

Can scanning be done during regular school hours?

Yes, usually during non-teaching times, in the afternoon or during school holidays. We coordinate appointments with the school administration to ensure that classes are not disrupted.

How are access and supervision organized?

We will coordinate access, key handover and, if necessary, accompaniment by the caretaker or school management in advance.

Can areas be determined according to DIN 277?

Yes. From the recorded inventory data, we calculate usable floor space transparently according to DIN 277, for example for school authorities or grant applications.

Which file formats can be provided?

Typical formats include E57, RCP/RCS, LAS, DWG, IFC, and STEP. We will coordinate other formats with the planning software used.

What information do you need to provide a quote?

Helpful information includes the location, approximate size, planning objective, timeframe, and any existing plans or photos. We can clarify any remaining points in a personal meeting.

Do you also work with school authorities and foundations?

Yes, including with school authorities, school foundations and private educational institutions – also across multiple locations and schools.

Project request

Which facility would you like to have recorded?

Please describe the task in detail. A project manager will review your information and contact you personally.

This information helps us with our initial assessment:

  • Planning objective and relevant recording areas
  • Project location with full property address
  • Gross floor area (GFA) including all levels
  • Available non-teaching times for data collection
  • Required scope of services: Building, facade and/or outdoor facilities
  • Desired output formats: point cloud, CAD plans or BIM model
  • Proposed timeframe and existing inventory documents
